The Lord Mayor of Leeds visits Co-op Academy Oakwood!

We were very proud and excited to welcome the Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Abigail Marshall Katung to our school on Monday, 19th May.

The Lord Mayor came to see the amazing things happening at Co-op Academy Oakwood. She was welcomed by our Head of School, Mrs Walsh, and our Executive Headteacher, Mrs Aasim. Our Head Boy and Head Girl also gave her a warm welcome and showed her around.

She visited lots of places in our school, including the Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1, and Key Stage 2. She also saw our learning shed and our lovely pond. These areas show how much we care about learning outdoors and looking after the environment.

During her visit, the Lord Mayor met with our school councillors and other pupil leaders. They talked about what it’s like to be a pupil at Oakwood, how we look after each other and how we help make our school and community better. It was a great chance for our pupils to share their ideas and talk to someone who helps lead our city.

“We were honoured to welcome the Lord Mayor, Abigail Marshall Katung to our school,” said Mrs Walsh, Head of School.

“It was a wonderful opportunity to highlight the work our pupils are involved in and they enjoyed talking about their sustainability and environmental responsibilities. We also shared the work we have been doing within the community via our Community Fridge which makes such a difference to people's lives.

“The visit was a special occasion for our pupils to share their aspirations, achievements and celebrate with the Lord Mayor, who inspired our pupils even further.”

To finish the visit, we had a special assembly where the Lord Mayor gave a lovely speech to everyone. She told us about her job, how important it is to help others and how we can all be leaders in our own way.
